MMAPA Announces New Board Of Directors

New Board Will Continue To Advance Policy Solutions For Puerto Rico's Health Care System

March 25, 2019

SAN JUAN, PR – The Medicaid and Medicare Advantage Products Association of Puerto Rico (MMAPA) is pleased to announce the appointment of its new board of directors for 2019/2020. The incoming board will continue to focus on the advancement of policy proposals that sustain and improve funding for Medicare Advantage (MA) and Medicaid beneficiaries on the island.

Jim O'Drobinak, President and CEO of MCS, has been named president of MMAPA. The board also includes: Dr. Richard Shinto, CEO of MMM and PMC; Roberto Garcia, President and CEO of Triple-S; Juan Dominguez, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at First Medical; and Luis Torres, President of Humana Puerto Rico.

Mr. O'Drobinak said, "We are committed to continuing to develop and implement policy solutions that address the United States federal government’s long-term health care funding disparities towards Puerto Rico. We look forward to working with Congress, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and other important stakeholders to bring the American citizens of Puerto Rico the care they deserve."

MMAPA's top priorities include stabilizing Medicare Advantage payments in Puerto Rico and addressing the federal government's drastic underfunding of Medicaid on the island. "The PRIMA Act, a bill recently introduced by Rep. Jennifer Gonzalez to temporarily stabilize MA payments, is a good first step to tackling funding disparities on the island. With the Medicaid 'cliff' fast approaching once again, we will also seek to secure a sustainable solution to inadequate federal funding for Medicaid beneficiaries in Puerto Rico," said Mr. O'Drobinak.
