(San Juan, PR – September 26, 2025) – The Medicaid and Medicare Advantage Products Association of Puerto Rico (MMAPA), founded 16 years ago to advocate for fair and equitable treatment in the island’s public health programs, today announced the election of Solange De Lahongrais, Esq. as its new president. With this appointment, De Lahongrais becomes the first woman to lead the association.
De Lahongrais, who also serves as President of MMM Multihealth, assumes the leadership of MMAPA at a critical and defining moment for Puerto Rico’s healthcare sector. Her commitment will focus on advocating for federal funding parity for the Medicaid and Medicare Advantage programs, which together serve more than 1.7 million beneficiaries on the island. She has also pledged to strengthen communication channels with both local and federal governments. The most pressing challenge ahead is the continuity of Medicaid funding for Puerto Rico, which expires in September 2027, while in Medicare Advantage the priority remains closing the funding gap that places the island at a disadvantage compared to the states.
Under her presidency, MMAPA will continue to advance the work plan established by its Board of Directors, strengthening strategic alliances both locally and nationally, and working in unity with all sectors of Puerto Rico’s healthcare system.
“I am deeply honored to lead MMAPA at such a decisive moment. Our mission is clear: to work tirelessly until Medicaid and Medicare Advantage in Puerto Rico are treated with the same fairness as in every U.S. state. The health and dignity of more than 1.7 million Puerto Ricans depend on achieving true federal parity.”” said De Lahongrais.
