That is why each year’s Medicare Advantage payment policies are so important for the stability of healthcare on the Island.
The Medicaid and Medicare Advantage Products Association of Puerto Rico (MMAPA) submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding the 2027 Medicare Advantage Advance Notice.
In our letter, we highlight the importance of ensuring that payment methodologies
accurately reflect markets where Medicare Advantage is the primary source of care. In Puerto Rico, nearly all Medicare beneficiaries receive their coverage through Medicare Advantage, making the program central to how seniors access doctors, medications, and coordinated care.
At the same time, benchmark levels in Puerto Rico remain approximately 41% below
the national average, underscoring the importance of continued evaluation of how
payment methodologies operate in high-MA markets.
MMAPA’s comments focus on promoting methodological accuracy, program stability, and long-term sustainability so that beneficiaries in Puerto Rico continue to have access to the coordinated care and benefits they depend on.
We look forward to continuing to work constructively with CMS and federal policymakers to strengthen Medicare Advantage for beneficiaries across Puerto Rico.
