The release of the 2027 Medicare Advantage rates marked an important step forward, but the decisions that will shape Puerto Rico's healthcare future are already being developed for 2028. Recognizing this critical moment, MMAPA recently submitted a letter to CMS leadership reinforcing the need for permanent solutions to the structural funding disparities that continue to impact Puerto Rico's Medicare Advantage program.
Building on the ongoing collaboration among CMS, the Administration, Governor
Jenniffer González-Colón, Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández, and Puerto
Rico's healthcare community, MMAPA will continue advocating for reforms that
strengthen beneficiary access, protect provider networks, and ensure a sustainable
healthcare system for the hundreds of thousands of seniors who rely on Medicare
Advantage every day.
The message is clear: Puerto Rico has demonstrated that high-quality, coordinated care delivers results. Yet despite having one of the nation's highest-performing Medicare Advantage markets, Puerto Rico continues to be funded significantly below the rest of the country. As discussions around the 2028 Medicare Advantage program move forward, MMAPA remains committed to ensuring that Puerto Rico's voice is heard and that long-term solutions remain at the forefront of the conversation.
